Welcome

Welcome to the CombatSportsChiro!

Welcome to CombatSportsChiro

The founder Alexander Alevras is very excited to finally open the CombatSportsChiro website as a platform for high quality and transparent combat sports scientific research and education.

An Introduction to me

I am incredibly passionate in combat sports after participating in marital arts since he was 8 years old.  With my early interest in Karate I began to nurture a general interest in sports laden with a deep curiosity with the body's way of movement. As a result of this interest I elected to pursue study in Chiropractic at Macquarie University. Completing my Bachelors and Masters of Chiropractic study in both 2017 and 2019 I then found myself in combat sports injury research space. This experience allowed me to work with acclaimed academics and researchers from around the world sharing ideas and research questions. Most notably, early on I was involved in recording and analysing injury data from the Olympic combat sports at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic games (DOI: 10.1136/bjsports-2020-102958).

Motivated by this experience and with supportive supervision I presented the Olympic boxing injury rate findings at the 2018 sports medicine conference in Perth, Western Australia. After enjoying this experience I elected to further my involvement in the greatest sport in the world (boxing) by enrolling into a Masters of Research involving two major works.  The first works is titled: 'Boxing-related fatalities in Australia: A retrospective analysis of news media reports' and the second works is titled 'Epidemiology of injuries in amateur boxing: a systematic review and meta-analysis'. Both works are major steps towards understanding the nature of boxing injuries in Australia and around the world. These works were presented in the online Sports Medicine Australia symposium during the end of 2021.

In future, when the covid-19 interruptions' of sports end and amateur boxing can resume I plan to help organise  a piloted injury surveillance study whereby injury data is accumulated and assessed.

This interest pairs exceptionally with my clinical Chiropractic interest where I don't only treat combat sports athletes and often their families, but I share the experience of combat as I compete in amateur boxing events. This personal experience paired with my academic and professional interests provides myself with a unique perspective and skill-set tailor made for casual and seasoned boxing athletes. As I progress and further my experience as a clinican, academic and a amateur boxing athlete the contribution to the combat sports space will also further develop. The beggings of the CombatSportsChiro website will in future hopefully form into an educational platform where key findings throughout this journey can be used to better inform combat sport coaches, athletes and family members on the beauty and danger associated with combat sports competition and training.

We hope you stay for the journey, learn a few things and don't hesitate to send an email (support@combatsportschiro.com) with any questions. I will do his best to reply.

Cheers,

CombatSportsChiro
